President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky opposes launch of Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to him, Nord Stream 2 is a weapon against Ukraine. Zelensky told Agence France-Presse, Reuters and the Associated Press reporters, the press service of the head of state reports.
"If Russia has a common economic process with some European countries, then for us Nord Stream 2 is a weapon against Ukraine. One of the European leaders said that Ukraine simply needed guarantees. It's not just about guarantees. For us, it's not about the economy, it looks ridiculous. This is definitely a political weapon, and so far Russia is beating everyone in the direction of Nord Stream 2. We must receive security guarantees, I think this is quite fair, " the statement said.
According to Zelensky, the most important thing in security guarantees is the return of our territories. He also considers stability and peace in the country and the end of the war in Donbas important. This is what he sees as compensation.
"And when we say 'stability', it is geopolitical stability, a sustained ceasefire, control of our territories, and energy security," Zelensky said.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that the country's gas transport system (GTS) will have hard time - actually, several years because of the launch of Nord Stream 2.
