"It seems to me that this meeting will take place after all. I have given a task for the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, to contact Putin's administration and they will find a time and place where we can meet. The main thing is content and where it will take place is a detail," Zelensky said.
Last week, Ukrainian President Zelensky offered his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to meet in any location of Donbas where there's war going on.
"Mr. Putin! I'm ready to go even further and offer you to meet in any location of Ukrainian Donbas, where there's a war going on," he said.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin replied to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky's offer about the meeting in Donbas. The politician said he was ready to meet in the Russian capital.
"If he wants to discuss issues related to Donbas, he should meet with leaders of DNR and LNR first (DNR, LNR - abbreviations for self-proclaimed "people's republics" in eastern Ukraine, - 112 International), and then with the Russian leader. But if he wants to discuss bilateral relations, he's welcome in Moscow at any convenient time", Putin said.
Since March 2021 the aggravation of the conflict is observed in Donbas, militants hell the Ukrainian military. Russia has conducted large-scale military exercises near the border with Ukraine.
On April 22, it was reported that Russia was withdrawing troops from Ukraine's borders to permanent locations. The head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation instructed the General Staff, the commander of troops of military districts, and airborne troops to plan and start the return of troops to points of permanent dislocation from April 23.
The escalation of the conflict in Donbas was the reason why Zelensky wants to meet with Putin.
