President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who arrived in Ukraine on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country's independence. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
Zelensky thanked Bartholomew for his visit to Ukraine and reminded that he had visited the Ecumenical Patriarch twice during his cadence, and His Holiness is visiting the country for the third time.
The interlocutors discussed issues of a peaceful settlement in Donbas, the situation with violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, freedom of religion in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The President also expressed gratitude to the Patriarch for the attention and support of Ukrainian soldiers' children, who lost their parents as a result of the war in Donbas.
The Ecumenical Patriarch noted that he prays for peace in Ukraine and blessed the Ukrainian people on behalf of the church.
Patriarch Bartholomew arrived in Ukraine on the evening of August 20. His plane landed at Boryspil airport.
