President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky ordered the Cabinet of Ministers to pay arrears in the payment of wages of the coal miners. If the government fails to do it, the president threatens to leave it without a salary, as 112 Ukraine reports.
According to Zelensky, the arrears exceeded one billion hryvnias ($40,8 million USD) and might continue to grow.
“I strongly urge in the next two months, March-April, to pay arrears before the coal miners. If we miss at least one day, I believe, it will be fair to leave the government without salary for these months,” Zelensky said.
On February 7, Cabinet of Ministers reported to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on payment of miners’ salaries.
In particular, Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said that the government is coping with all the debts that currently exist.
"All the debts that exist now - and they are constantly accumulating, they have always been, and miners, unfortunately, have always been held hostage to the state - so, we are coping with it," Honcharuk said.
As we reported earlier, February 5, the State Treasury Service of Ukraine transferred 6,5 million dollars, which would be aimed at securing the payment of miners' salaries.
According to the press service of Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers, the money will be transferred to the accounts of nine companies.
