The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is convening a meeting with the participation of the Chairman of the Council of Judges, the Chairman of the Supreme Court, representatives of the Parliament, as well as ambassadors of the G7 countries. During the meeting, the President wants to discuss blocking of the judicial reform, according to the press service of the President's Office.
“A working meeting will be held in the Office of the President of Ukraine on Thursday, September 16, with the participation of heads of judicial bodies, including the chairman of the Council of Judges, the Supreme Court, representatives of parliament and ambassadors of the G7,” the statement said.
The reason for this was that the Council of Judges of Ukraine had to delegate three representatives to the Ethics Council, but at Monday's meeting, the Council of Judges was unable to delegate its representatives.
“This raises concerns about the progress of judicial reform due to the suspension of its most important part - the cleansing of the judiciary,” the President's Office stated.
As it was reported earlier, in July, Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission for Interinstitutional Relations, said that Ukraine would receive the second tranche of EU macro-financial assistance only after steps were taken to strengthen the rule of law and reform the judiciary.
