On Friday, February 26, the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) took place under the chairmanship of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a few hours before its start, the NSDC lifted the veil and announced that the draft project of the 'State strategy of de-occupation and reintegration of temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol’ will be considered behind the closed doors.
Moreover, the agenda includes the introduction of sanctions, urgent events on counteraction threats of the national security in the sphere of citizenship and state investigation of cases on state treason, desertion, terrorist activity and oath-breaking.
We tell about the decisions made by the NSDC and remind the decisions of the previous two meetings.
The outcomes of the meeting on February 26
The sanctions were imposed against 10 high-ranking military officers, who, according to the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Danilov, ‘betrayed Ukraine’. The list is the next:
- Denys Berezovsky
- Stanislav Shaportov
- Serhiy Nyanchur
- Yuriy Katovsky
- Oleksandr Yakymenko
- Volodymyr Tovsky
- Valentyna Hanzhy
- Serhiy Yeliseyev
- Dmitro Shakura
- Vitaliy Zakharchenko.
All mentioned persons were deprived of state awards and ranks. The sanctions are maximal and they introduced according to 13 paragraphs.
Moreover, in two weeks, the report of the Prosecutor General, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Interior Ministry will be given a hearing on cases called high-profile by Danilov.
“All people who betrayed our country in due time will be punished,” Danilov stated.
Previous NSDC meeting
It took place last Friday, on February 19.
During it, the sanctions were imposed against 19 entities and eight persons, including Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform-For Life Viktor Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko.
Besides, the sanctions list includes:
- Vatskovsky Kostyantyn Borysovych, a citizen of Russia;
- Donchenko Vitaliy Valeriyovych, a citizen of Russia;
- Lavrenyuk Natalya Mykolaivna, a citizen of Ukraine;
- Lysohor Serhiy Viktorovych, a citizen of Russia;
- Maslyuk Oleksandr Mylokayovych, a citizen of Russia;
- Popov Mykhailo Yuriyovych, a citizen of Russia.
The sanctions were imposed for property owned by mentioned persons.
Moreover, the decision was made concerning the escalation in Donbas. However, it is unknown.
According to Oleksandr Danilov, it is classified.
Besides, the Cabinet of Ministers was ordered to assume necessary measures for preservation and exploitation of part of oil products pipelines with 1,433 km length that intersect Ukraine. Particularly, it is ordered to return in state-owned assets the Samara-Western Direction oil products pipeline.
The next day, on February 20, Zelensky signed the order that brings into action the NSDC decision.
The first February meeting
It took place on February 2. The same day Zelensky brought into action the NSDC decision on the introduction of targeted sanctions against MP from Opposition Platform – For Life Taras Kozak.
According to the order that came into force from the moment of the signing, the sanctions were applied against the TV channels that provide the blocking of their broadcasting.
