President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is building top-down command structure as the small dictator as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing MEP, Vice President of Association Committee Ukraine-EU Viola von Cramon-Taubadel.
She noted that each change of power in Ukraine kept the influence of oligarchs. And this time “people voted to get rid of this”. However, according to her, it did not take place.
“Concerning the top-down command structure, it is really scary,” Cramon-Taubadel said.
Meanwhile, the MEP is sure that Ukraine does not need a powerful vertical for successful reforms.
“The control is needed. The mechanism of restraint and counterweight is needed. Democracy is about it. It is not about the single power. Otherwise, he (the president) may dissolve the parliament, judiciary system, mass media and will decide like a small dictator. It is not what you want in a democracy. You want to have a powerful parliament, powerful and independent judicial system and so on. The things he tries to develop, accumulating the power is dangerous,” she warned.
Cramon-Taubadel reminded that the current Russian president also started to build top-down command under a pretext of good intentions and with a high support rating. “In two years people will wake up in completely another system and will be shocked by it,” she predicted.
As we reported, the international conference on “Reform of judicial system in Ukraine: implementation of norms in accordance with the European standards” takes place in Strasbourg, France.
MPs of Ukraine Iryna Venedyktova and Oleksiy Zhmerenetskyi will speak at the conference as well as MEPs Nathan Gill (the UK), Viola von Cramon-Taubadel (Germany), Richard Charnetsky (Poland), Juozas Olekas (Lithuania), Petras Auštrevičius (Lithuania), Miroslav Radačovský (Slovakia), Michak Simecka (Slovakia), Witold Waszczykowski (Poland) and others.
