Yefremov case: Ukraine's Prosecutor's Office opens case against officials-allies of ex-MP

Former Luhansk Mayor and ex-head of the region, their deputies and MP are the suspects in the case

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has filed a request to the Pechersk Court of Kyiv on the special pretrial investigation toward former MP Serhy Horohov and number of the high-ranked Luhansk officials along with chairman of MP party "Party of Regions" in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Yefremov who are suspected in the committing of the number of the grave and especially grave crimes as the press service of the prosecutor's office reported.

"During the pretrial investigation enough proper and allowed evidence was gathered for the holding of the special pretrial investigation toward MP Horohov and former Head of Luhansk Regional Council Valery Holenko, his First Deputy Yevhen Kharin, Luhanks Mayor Serhy Kravchenko and his First Deputy Manolis Pilavov," the message said. It was also noted that the criminal proceeding against Yefremov is considered at Starobilsk court of Luhansk region where the restrictive measure in the form of the detention was chosen for him.

At the moment, Horohov, Holenko, Kharin, Kravchenko and Pilavov are on the wanted list. It is held by the officers of the SBU. The Prosecutor General's Office got the order of the investigating judge on the permission for the detention of the suspected for the participation in the consideration of the appeal and their detention.

They are suspected in the deliberate acts for change of the borders of Ukraine committed by prior conspiracy among a group of persons that lead to the grave consequences; state treason, precisely, the provision of assistance to the foreign organization and its representatives in the subversive activity against Ukraine; creation and activity of the terrorist organization "Luhansk People's Republic"; assistance in  the take over of the SBU building in Luhansk regions for its illegal use and hindering in the normal activity of the body.

Yefremov is suspected in state treason, the takeover of the building of the state regional administration in Luhansk in spring 2014 organization. He also faced charges of assisting in the takeover of Ukraine’s Security Service office in Luhansk region, when it was captured by pro-Kremlin militants. 

Yefremov was detained in airport Kyiv on July 2016. He is in custody in the Starobilsk pretrial facility in Luhansk region now.
