Yanukovych’s defense stands against questioning of Poroshenko in regime of video conference

According to the advocate, the president does not want to answer awkward questions

The defense of Viktor Yanukovych, the former president of Ukraine stands against the questioning of Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine in the regime of the video conference on the case of the Yanukovych’s state treason. Vitaly Serdyuk, the advocate of Yanukovych reported this to 112 Ukraine.

 ‘More than 200 questions were prepared by the defense and people on Crimea and events in Maidan. Such passage shows that in fact, the president backed down and did not want to speak at the court personally. He did not want because he feels the big amount of the awkward questions that will be asked’, he said.

‘I draw the attention that they attempt to restrict the questioning of the president with an hour and a half. The decision of the court is already known and we can observe the pre-planned staged performance of the events directed by the Prosecutor General’s Office’, the advocate added.

As we reported the Obolon District Court of Kyiv allowed the questioning of Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine within the case of the state treason of Viktor Yanukovych, the former president of Ukraine in the regime of the video conference from the presidential administration. It is supposed that the questioning will last for an hour and a half since 14:00 till 15:30.

Earlier the prosecution reported on the letter from the Administration of the president where the feasibility of the non-appearance of Poroshenko to the court and the questioning on the regime of the video conference due to the increased requirements to the security of the state’s head. The presidential administration thinks that stay in the building of the court can restrict the work of the facility and its workers and visitors.

The lawyers of Yanukovych offered to reschedule the questioning of Poroshenko for another day after the announcement of the decision, however, the court rejected the offer.

Previously, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the President Petro Poroshenko and the National Security Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov are among those yet to be interviewed; 23 witnesses are to be interviewed.

Yanukovych is charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
