Yanukovych proposes holding referendum on Donbas status

He thinks if Ukraine fails to implement Minsk agreement, a referendum on status of Donbas should be initiated

Former Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych wrote a letter addressed to world leaders. This was reported by Ria News.

The fugitive head of state reached out to the presidents of Russia, United States, Germany, France, Poland, PACE head, General Secretary of the European Council and European Parliament president.

Yanukovych announced that if "current Ukrainian authorities fail to implement Minsk agreement, a referendum on status of Donbas should be initiated".

Apart from that, he urged to include the "insurgents representing Donbas people to the negotiation process in terms of Normandy format".

He also offered to "initiate the creation of special European Council Commission to monitor investigation of crimes committed at Maidan".
