Viktor Yanukovych, the former president of Ukraine and heads of the law enforcement bodies began the preparation of the annexation of Crimea by Russia in the beginning of 2010. Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the former head of the SBU claimed this during the questioning on the state treason of Yanukovych in Obolon District Court as 112 Ukraine broadcasted.
'It is my belief that I terminated the agreement with Russia's FSB in 2009 that allowed them to stay in the territory of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, consciously understanding that the special services of the foreign state is the vanguard of the future aggression. I did not just terminate the agreement but also sent out all FSB officers from Ukrainian Crimea. When Yanukovych and his law enforcers took power, they began the preparatory phase of the aggression in the beginning of 2010. It means that Yanukovych and new heads of the law enforcement bodies returned FSB to Crimea and restored the agreements. Then they restored the complete cooperation and the people who were under the influence of the Russian special services or directly cooperated with them were appointed to the positions in the SBU and central bodies', Nalyvaichenko said.
He added that so-called 'cooperation' is not provided with the Ukrainian legislation and was held within the preparation of the future occupation of Crimea and Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Nalyvaichenko was a head of the SBU twice: in 2006-2010 and 2014-2015.
Crimea was annexed by Russia by way of the illegal referendum that was held at the peninsula in March 2014. Earlier the Russian militaries that stayed there without any marking conquered all strategic military objects and building of the force and state bodies. The results of the referendum were not recognized by Ukraine and the world society. The number of the European and world countries, including Ukraine imposed the economic sanctions against Russia.
