Westinghouse guaranteed the supply of nuclear fuel to Ukraine, despite the procedure for the bankruptcy of its parent structure, that began in the US. This was announced in the official statement of the company.
Westinghouse LLC and some subsidiaries and affiliates filed voluntary motions in accordance with Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. These motions do not impact any Westinghouse operations in Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia.
Fuel assemblies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants are produced in Sweden. Swedish branch of Westinghouse will not suffer from bankruptcy.
“Westinghouse and Ukraine are strategic partners. Such cooperation will remain strong and, we hope, will only grow in the future. Westinghouse Sweden, which has strong financial positions and is not subject to bankruptcy, will produce and supply nuclear fuel to six Ukrainian VVER (WWER)-1000 reactors in 2017, according to our contract, " the statement says.
The company emphasizes that cooperation with Ukraine is a priority for Westinghouse, and now "the discussions on the expansion of fuel supplies and the provision of services for Ukraine continue".
Earlier it was reported that Westinghouse will not build nuclear fuel plant in Ukraine. Westinghouse will participate in construction, if Kyiv provides funding.
