The raging coronavirus, weakening of quarantine in Cherkasy region, and return of Kim Jong-un: these and other events that happened May on 2-3 are quite memorable.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that American intelligence had a lot of evidence that the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19 began from a Chinese laboratory in Wuhan. And the Australian agency of The Daily Telegraph, citing a report by the Five Eye intelligence alliance (USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the UK), reports that China deliberately suppressed or destroyed evidence of the coronavirus outbreak in an “assault on international transparency’’ that cost tens of thousands of lives, according to a dossier prepared by concerned Western governments on the COVID-19 contagion. At the same time, NATO began preparations for an operation to respond to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, which is expected in the fall. And McDonald's restaurant in the Netherlands has created the first institution in which visitors can maintain a safe distance.
But let us go back to the current situation. Doctors have discovered new symptoms of coronavirus disease. Spanish doctors in a small study found five types of body rash in patients diagnosed with Covid-19. According to doctors, the rash most often appeared in young people and lasted several days. Often the rash appeared as red dots on the body, similar to chickenpox.
Now let us briefly remind you the situation with coronavirus infection in the world. In Singapore, 657 new infected with coronavirus were registered for 24 hours, most of whom are foreigners. New York State authorities began testing citizens for antibodies to coronavirus, and a positive result was found in 12.3% of the population. Over 2.500 Russian army military servicemen and students of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Defense were infected with the coronavirus. In addition, the Interior Minister of Moldova Pavel Voicu was infected by Covid-19. At the same time, the smallest number of deaths from the Covid-19 was recorded in Italy for the last month: 174 people. In the Ukrainian Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, however, about one-third of monks suffer from coronavirus disease.
At the same time, more and more countries are weakening quarantine measures. For example, the Egyptian authorities allowed opening hotels for domestic tourists, provided that their occupancy was not more than 25% until the end of May. The hotels with a medical office and a resident doctor got the right to resume work. After a long quarantine, the Spanish people were allowed to leave the house and play sports on the street.
Weakening of quarantine in Cherkasy
On April 30, the city authorities of Cherkasy significantly weakened quarantine, allowing visiting parks and green areas, as well as resuming the work of most stores from May 1. Minister of Healthcare Maksym Stepanov condemned such a decision and noted that it could “nullify all the work that has been done within a month and a half.” In his turn, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the response to the weakening of quarantine measures in Cherkasy will be tough. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video message promised the mayor “legal consequences” for weakening quarantine and conveyed “greetings” from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine.
The police opened criminal proceedings, and the Mayor of Cherkasy Anatoly Bondarenko was summoned for questioning. Bondarenko himself noted that he would not be intimidated by criminal prosecution and that by this decision he “restored social justice”.
On May 3, the main municipal inspector of Cherkasy Stanislav Kolomyiets reported that military equipment and officers of the National Guard were spotted on the streets of the city. He suggested that this could probably be due to the planned mass rally in support of Cherkasy Mayor Anatoly Bondarenko, who was summoned for questioning. However, Cherkasy Regional State Administration and the National Police denied the involvement of additional forces of the National Guard in Cherkasy.
