President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has addressed the speech during the celebration of Independence Day of Ukraine.

We provide the speech of the president:

Dear ladies and gentlemen, the high-ranking guests of Ukraine, our brothers, our partners, our friends!

Dear citizens of Ukraine, dear Ukrainian people! I congratulate all of us on this great and important day. Today, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Ukraine; the 20th anniversary of its receiving, and more honest, as for me, the 30th anniversary of the renewal of the independence of Ukraine. Because on August 24, 1991, Ukraine has restored its nationhood and on August 24, 2021, Ukraine, finally, realizes it, tells about it, it is proud about it. Our history and our state are unique. Our Constitution is 25-year-old; however, our Constitution is 311-year-old. It is written by Pylyp Orlyk; it is finally home and everyone can see it at St. Sophia's Cathedral built over 1,000 years ago. Our hryvnia is a quarter of a century old; Volodymyr the Great is depicted on it. However, our hryvnia is over 1,000 years old. It existed at Volodymyr the Great times. Our trident was approved by the Constitution of Ukraine 25 years ago. And our trident was cut out on the bricks of the Tithe Church 1,025 years ago. This year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine celebrated the 30th anniversary of their creation. In 1616, the Armed Forces of Ukraine celebrated the seizure of the Genoese fortress. All of this state the only one thing: we are the young country with a 1,000- year-old history. We build our house on the land, where our ancestors lived and built. We are guests and not living in foreign land. We are a young family from the glorious dynasty of Kyiv Rus of Ukraine. We are from the family of founders, baptizers; we are from the brave family, wise, Kozak ancestry. We are not orphans and not foundlings; we are descendants of a powerful country that was the center of Europe. We have not only to feel properly. We have to behave properly. We are the heirs of the nationhood that existed over 1,000 years ago. We start to celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Nationhood. We consider the year of the foundation of Kyiv, the capital of Kyiv Rus of Ukraine, as its precise counting and it is called the city, where everything begins. The orthodoxy started there; the Old Church Slavonic, the modern Ukrainian language is its descendant, also started there. Our nationhood also started there. The origin of our nationhood we will celebrate on the day of the prosperity of our nationhood, on the day of the Christianization of Kyiv Rus of Ukraine. I sign the proper order about all this today.

We also start the process of return to the motherland of prominent Ukrainians, who lived in Ukraine, fought for Ukraine, buried not in Ukraine. The issue is about hetmans of Zaporozhian Sich, actors of Ukrainian People's Republic times, partakers of liberation struggles, cultural figures, science, and many others. We will return not only our people but also our things. It means the historical and cultural valuables of our state that are overseas. We will never again present to anyone even a stone of our history; we will not allow to occupy any page of our history, annex our writers, our scientists, our athletes, our heroes who overcame Nazism.

I contributed many times to the glorious past to make us finally believe in ourselves, in ourselves in the future, and build a strong state together. What is a strong country? The country that ambitiously dreams and acts decisively; the country that is not afraid of the word “for the first time”. For the first time in 30 years, Antonov builds for the country three planes; the helicopters are being built for the army at the Ukrainian plants. This year, the new tanks are being constructed. The strong country revives its naval fleet, naval bases and builds corvette; the strong country is the country that adopts the missile program for 10 years; the country that builds thousands of km of roads, hundreds of schools, kindergartens, hospitals; the country that has the first in the world digital passport. The country that fulfills its promises and lifts immunity from MPs. The country that gives people a real property right for the land and launches the people power for the first time ever. Such a country becomes a NATO partner with extended possibilities. Such a country is officially supported by others when it files the request for accession to the EU. However, it will be such a country; it does not have to ask for the invitation – it will be invited. We do many things for the first time to make time when Ukraine is a great country it will be not the last time and times when Crimea and Donbas are not occupied were also not the last. The strong country does not wait that somebody solves its problem – hold Crimean Platform, where it gathers 46 foreign states. We fight for our people there.  It is possible to occupy territories temporarily; however, it is impossible to occupy the love of people in Ukraine. It is possible to create desperation and force people to get passports; however, it is impossible to passportize their Ukrainian hearts. The fact that some people in Donbas and in Crimea are afraid to say about it does not mean that they are afraid to think about it. They will return because we are the family. The only thing that can divide us is a generous table, where we will toast for remaining the strong country. It is very important for all of us to understand how to keep it strong. We argue a lot about the past and it means that we do not draw conclusions of our own great history because any enemy did not hit a larger strike than our own argues.

What is the strength of the Ukrainian people? In the Ukrainian people. They are the citizens of Ukraine of all nationalities. Today, for the first time ever, I want to call those, who are the citizens of our state, who live in Ukraine to understand finally that the Ukrainian people are all of us, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, Crimean Karaites, Krymchaks, Belarusians, Russians, Moldovans, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Romanians, Poles, Jews, Armenians, Greeks, Roma, Georgians, Gagauz, Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz people, Turkmens, Tajiki, Lithuanians, Estonians and Latvians, Turkish people, Koreans, Bashkirs, Lezgins, Avars, Germans, Slovaks, Czechs, Finns, Albanians, Karelians, Chechen people, Ossetians, Abkhazians, Kabardians, Tabasarans, Dargins, Arabi…- we are all citizens of Ukraine. The national team of Ukraine is the one team, strong because it consists of 25 regions. 25 irreplaceable players. It is unbeatable when it realizes that we are unbeatable when everyone is necessary. We understand: without helicopters of Zaporizhia, without planes of Antonov Ukraine would not subdue the sky; without vessels of our Mykolaiv, Ukraine would not subdue the sea; without Dnipro Yuzhmash, without Zhytomyr citizen Korolyov, Bukovyna citizen Kadenyuk, Ukraine would not subdue the space. With Kharkiv T-34 Ukraine would not win at the fields of WWII.

Without the Oleshky Sands in the Kherson region, Buky Canyon in the Cherkasy region, Basalt Columns in Rivne region, without the Carpathian Mountains and spoil tip, Dnipro, Desna, and the Southern Bug rivers, Ukraine is not so charming. Without a cup of Lviv coffee in the morning is not so cheerful; without a glass of Odesa wine, the evening is not so pleasant, and without a liqueur-glass of homemade liqueur from any part of Ukraine, the Day of Independence is not so festive. Rivne region presents us with the first president of Ukraine; Chernihiv region – with the second; Sumy region – with the third. Donetsk region presented us with Leonid Bykov and Serhiy Bubka. Luhansk region – Volodymyr Dal, Kyrovohrad region – Karpenko-Karyi and Kropyvnytsky and theater with them; Zhytomyr region – Lesia Ukrainka and poetry; Poltava region – Mykola Lysenko and opera; Ternopil region – Solomia Krushelnytska and heavenly voice. Vinnytsia region – Vasyl Stus and invincibility of spirit. Without Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle, Lubart's Castle in Lutsk, and Bilhorod-Dnister fortress in the Odesa region, Ukraine is not so strong. Without Lavra and Sophia, St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Cathedral, St. George's Cathedral, Biyuk Han Cami in Bakhchisaray, and Golden Rose Synagogue in Dnipro, Ukraine is not so many-sided.

Dear, native Ukrainians, dear citizens of our state. Look and imagine our flag. Imagine that it does not have a yellow color. Imagine that it does not have a blue color. Let’s agree, solely the colors are just colors. Together, for us, it is the better and strongest union. It is the answer to why we are strong together. Why we are so different in the east and west, Ukrainian-speaking and Russian-speaking; we have to be the one family. Ukraine unites everyone. We tell it: You are the only one for me. All of us defend it. Different, equal, native, strong, free. Independent. Glory to Ukraine!

Dear citizens! On this festive day, we have to remember thanks to whom we can be here. Our defenders of Ukraine, our independence, heroes who gave their lives for it. Let’s honor their cherished memory with a minute of silence!

They died for the future of our children, grandchildren. We are sure that they will definitely celebrate here the 130th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine and the 1,000th anniversary of our state. For this, we remember about the past, act today and think about the future.

On August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 30th anniversary of the declaration of independence.

Today, many festive events are expected today, including the military parade at Khreshchatyk, the solemn meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a large-scale gala concert at Olympiysky, different exhibitions, and local events all over the country.
