Inability to guarantee security to Ukraine after its nuclear disarmament is a failure of Western policy. This opinion was expressed by the U.S. State Department special representative on Donbas, Kurt Volker in an interview with DW.

"For Ukraine, possession of nuclear weapons is unrealistic and will not help to strengthen its security. Perhaps the effect will be more likely reversed. I think that Russian invasion and the seizure of part of the Ukrainian territory is a failure of the international community. But it is also the failure of the United States, France and wider international community that they gave Ukraine security guarantees and then did not fulfill them. Thai is why it is important not to give up and try to restore the integrity of Ukraine, "Volker said.

As it was reported earlier U.S. considers giving Ukraine lethal weaponry, according to Volker. Washington values relations with Moscow, but they will worsen unless Russia takes back its troops from Ukraine, U.S. envoy says.
