“The fact that Russian Investigation Committee opened an investigation against the Director of Ukraine’s Institute of National Remembrance Volodymyr Viatrovych is another failed attempt of the Kremlin regime to rewrite the Ukrainian history and impose its view concerning the historical events as the only true one,” Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Kateryna Zelenko noted.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informed that Russia “resorts persecutions of experts and scientists who carry out researches which do not comply with Russian imperial historical doctrine.”

“Random “justice” of the Russian Federation shows that they are not able to respect the international law as well as ignoring the facts of the liberation movement of Ukraine which undertook Nazi persecution. Due to this, we want to note that the materials of Nuremberg Trials contain evidence of the struggle of Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists against Nazi,” the representatives of the Ministry reported.

It was also noted that law on condemnation of communist and Nazi totalitarian regimes work in Ukraine and it provides criminal liability for denial of criminal nature of such regimes.

Viatrovych is seen as a controversial figure in both Ukraine and abroad. He has been accused of whitewashing the history of Ukraine, marginalizing or suppressing the facts about the involvement of Ukrainian nationalists in the Holocaust and their collaboration with Nazis, and passing laws restricting free speech. Viatrovych is responsible for an exhumation ban. Ukraine doesn't study crime evudences and bans any such research even after 75 years.
