Verkhovna Rada to set criminal punishment for illicit enrichment in amount over $570,000

The Verkhovna Rada supported as the basis a bill, which provides for criminal liability for illegal enrichment in the amount of more than 570,000 dollars. 316 parliamentarians voted for the draft law. The plenary session was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.

The parliament of Ukraine plans to introduce a new article in the Criminal Code on “Illicit enrichment.” It will provide for 5-10 years of imprisonment if there is evidence of the unlawful enrichment of an official or a high-ranking official for an amount that exceeds 576,144 dollars.

If a smaller amount is recognized as received illicitly, the assets could be confiscated.

It is about the assets acquired by a senior official, or at their expense, or on their instruction.

The fact of illicit enrichment must be proved in court.

It is planned to establish in the Civil Code of Ukraine that recognition of assets as unjustified is one of the grounds for termination of ownership with their further exaction to the state budget.

Such cases will be considered in the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (collegially, by three judges), and the appeal will be heard in the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada adopted the presidential law on impeachment as a whole by the votes of the Servant of the People Party. 245 MPs voted for the law, 244 of them are representatives of the Servant of the People Party.
