The MPs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine did not support the decree #5041 on the dismissal of Arsen Avakov from the post of the Minister of Internal Affairs. 31 MPs voted in the affirmative and 102 lawmakers were against this decree.
13 non-attached MPs, 9 representatives of ‘Samopomich’, 8 MPs from Petro Poroshenko Bloc and 1lawmaker from ‘Batkivshchyna’ supported the decree. The ‘Narodny Front’, ‘Opposition Bloc’, ‘Radical Party of Ukraine’, ‘Vidrodzhenia’ and ‘Volia narodu’ were against the dismissal of Avakov.
The document was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada due to the investigation of the purchase of the backpacks by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2014-2015 with the involvement of Avakov Jr.
Arsen Avakov holds the position of the Interior Minister since February 2014.
Oleksandr Avakov, the son of Arsen Avakov is suspected in the embezzlement of 539. 800 dollars. Also, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergy Chebotar and winner of the tender for the supply of the backpacks Volodymyr Lytvyn are suspected.
The Prosecutor’s General Office opened the criminal proceeding due to the purchase in July 2015. According to journalist Roman Bochkala, the ministry purchased the backpacks for the price 111 dollars per item and the total sum of the purchase is 539. 800 dollars
Later the video was published on YouTube that supposedly contains the talks of former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergy Chebotar and Son of Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov Oleksandr Avakov. They discuss the supply of the backpacks for the Internal Ministry.
The NABU held the search at the home of Avakov Jr., Sergy Chebotar and Volodymyr Lytvyn on October 31. All of them were detained and served with charge papers.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs claimed that the searches are illiquid and aim to discredit the ministry.
