The vandals desecrated the Monument of Grieving Mother in Poltava. This monument is a memorial sign to the Jewish people who fell victim to Nazism. This was reported by the Ltava agency.
The eyes of the sculpture were painted black; the offenders also drew a swastika and made inscriptions. As the agency reports, anti-Semitic inscription were covered with sketches before the police arrival.
Poltava police started investigating the incident. The offenders have been leaving such inscriptions there for the last 8 years. In 2011, law enforcers have identified people who did this and fined. The vandals were residents of Dnipro and Kharkiv city.
“Several years in a raw in April such an escalation happens. Perhaps somebody with sick psyche or perhaps someone who did this on purpose as a provocation,” said the regional police speaker Yuriy Sulaev.
The Grieving Mother Monument and a memorial sign to the Jewish people who fell victim to Nazism were installed in the place of mass shooting. During the World War II, the prisoners of Southwestern Front which got broken up in Poltava region. Among the prisoners, there were partisans, Jewish people and patients of the psychiatric hospital. The mass executions by shooting started on November 23, 1941.
As it was reported earlier, in Kharkiv, unknown people abused a monument to the soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army on March 14. The investigative group that arrived at the place found that the unknown drew a swastika with a red paint on the monument.
The incident was registered in the Journal of Unified Register of Offenses.
