The word "vaccine" became the word of the year in Ukraine. It was chosen by the dictionary of modern Ukrainian language and slang Myslovo.

"The events of the last two years leave us no room for maneuver. As last year, the current word of the year is dictated by the coronavirus pandemic, but in its next round. The vaccine and its derivatives, especially "vaccination", completely dominated the public last year's discussions"the message says.

Other important derivatives or words related to the 2021 vaccine / vaccination include:

anti-vaccine - opponent of vaccination;

revaccination - re-vaccination to maintain the level of immune protection;

booster dose - an additional dose of vaccine, which is revaccinated;

immunization - the process of acquiring immunity, usually by vaccination;

immunity - the body's ability to resist the action of harmful external factors.

Merriam-Webster's English dictionary has called the word "pandemic" the word of the year 2020 as the number of search queries related to the word has increased by 115,806% over that period. This was reported on the dictionary's website. 

"Based upon a statistical analysis of words that are looked up in extremely high numbers in our online dictionary while also showing a significant year-over-year increase in traffic, Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year for 2020 is pandemic," the statement said.
