The mass vaccination against coronavirus in Ukraine might start in February 2021. However, it depends on how fast vaccine is supplied as Health Minister of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov reported.

According to him, in the first quarter of 2021, 8 million doses of vaccine should be supplied to Ukraine. Stepanov noted that the vaccines will be supplied in Ukraine in tranches. The first tranche will make 2 million doses. However, the Health Ministry is currently working on the increase of quota twice, from 8 million doses to 16 million doses.  The minister added that the Medical Procurements of Ukraine is appointed as the operator that will hold a technical function on the purchase and supply of the vaccines.

Maksym Stepanov said that the Health Ministry has developed a road map for implementation of vaccines and holding of mass vaccination in Ukraine in 2021-2022. Today, Stepanov plans to sign an order that launches this road map. It will be possible to familiarize with the vaccination plan after the signing of this map.

“It is supposed that the operative staff of the Health Ministry will coordinate the process of implementation of anti-Covid-19 vaccine and holding of the campaign on the vaccination. This staff is headed by the Health Minister. At the regional level, the events on immunologic prophylaxis will be held by the regional coordinators. They will be determined for each region and Kyiv City on the request of the Health Ministry,” Stepanov reported.

The Health Minister also noted that the vaccination against coronavirus in Ukraine will be voluntary for all citizens. Moreover, the ministry determined nine priority groups for vaccination: medical employees, including all participating in the events on counteraction pandemic; military men; social workers; persons living in the facilities providing long-term care and support; employees of such facilities; elder people (60+), including people with coexistent diseases; employees of critically important structures of state security; teachers and other workers of education sphere; people at the age of 18 up to 59 with coexistent diseases; people staying in custody or remand centers and employees of custody facilities and remand centers.

Firstly, the Health Ministry will recommend to vaccine people over the age of 60.

The vaccination will take place in five stages:

  1. Vaccination of people with critical risk of infection with Covid-19.
  2. Vaccination of people with a very high risk of infection with Covid-19.
  3. Vaccination of people with a high risk of infection with Covid-19.
  4. Vaccination of people with increased risk of infection with Covid-19.
  5. Vaccination of other categories of population that do not enter the priority groups.

Meanwhile, according to Stepanov, it is planned to create 50 centers of vaccination against coronavirus in Ukraine as in some EU countries. Besides, the mobile brigades will be formed in Ukraine that will hold immunization in all regions and they will be able to hold about 190,000 vaccinations per week.

As we reported, the operative staff of Ukraine's Healthcare Ministry approved the plan of inoculations for the citizens. The plan foresees four stages of the vaccination.
