US to allocate $100 million to strengthen Ukraine's defense

The United States in the near future will help Ukraine to strengthen its defense capacity by allocating 100 million dollars. Ukraine’s Defense Minister of Stepan Poltorak stated this on air of ICTV channel.

"After adoption of the law on national security, the US Secretary of Defense noted that in the near future the United States would allocate 100 million dollars to Ukraine for strengthening defense capability of the Ukrainian army, for supplies of weapons, equipment," Poltorak said.

As it was reported earlier, the United States House Committee on Armed Services of the US Congress presented the draft law on the US budget for 2019 national defense, which provides for the allocation of 250 million dollars to Ukraine.

50 million dollars out of this money is proposed to be directed solely for the provision of defensive lethal weapon.

The bill has to be agreed with the Senate and voted by both chambers of Congress before it’s submitted to the US president for a signature.

Ukraine carried out the first test launch of Javelin missiles on May 22.

'Finally, this day has come. Today, May 22, Ukraine hosted the first tests of Javelin anti-tank missile system. I'm sure that now, the combat efficiency of Ukraine's Armed Forces, missile troops and the artillery have increased considerably', he said. 'Of course, this is defensive weaponry and it will be used only when Russia attacks positions of Ukrainian forces', President Poroshenko said.
