Kurt Volker, the U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine predicts that the support of Ukraine will not be limited by the supply of the Javelin as European Truth reported.
‘It is quite simplified vision (the U.S. support in the form of the Javelin’s supply), the issue is about more extended support’, he said.
He reminded that the US also provided Ukraine with the support during the presidentship of Barack Obama but the limit on the arms supply acted.
‘Consequently, the administration of Trump lifted the restriction of Obama’s time. It extends the possibilities of the US on the security support of Ukraine’, Volker emphasized.
In such way, the Americans strive to fill the gaps in the armament of the Ukrainian army. The special envoy noted that the US will continue to provide free support but at the same time Ukraine gets the right to purchase the missing arms.
As well, Volker excluded the possibility of the military option of the Donbas conflict.
‘We do not have the aim to return the territory with the aid of the arms or to solve the conflict as we have the diplomatic negotiations for this and it is the reason that we agree on the peacekeepers’, he said.
According to Volker, the aim of the US is the restoration of the normal relations between Ukraine and Russia by the peaceful means.
‘I hope that finally the conflict will be solved. But I will emphasize – it is impossible to solve it with the arms’, he claimed.
Earlier Stepan Poltorak, the Defense Minister of Ukraine claimed that the anti-tank missile systems Javelin will be supplied to Ukraine in 2018.
As we reported Ukraine’s Armed Forces will gradually prepare to adopt the Javelins, the U.S.-made anti-tank missile launchers.
According to the information of ABC from its sources in the White House, US President Donald Trump is to announce his approval of a plan to sell anti-tank missiles to Ukraine. This plan is to include the anti-tank Javelin systems. The defense package of $47 million envisages selling 210 anti-tank missiles and 35 launching systems to them.
