Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent explained why there has been no conversation between U.S. leader Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The representative of the State Department reported about it in an interview with Voice of America.
Kent noted that the call the Ukrainian side expects so much, given its symbolism, must be backed up by action.
"These are issues that are on the agenda of the United States and Ukraine. We want Ukraine to succeed. This means that we want the government and President Zelensky to succeed. But for this success, there must be right actions and right reforms," he added.
The journalist stressed that the call between the two presidents is a hot political topic. However, when asked whether the conversation between Zelensky and former U.S. President Donald Trump affected the current situation, Kent said that "he would not link" the two things.
According to the representative of the State Department, the conversation between the leaders of the two countries may take place in the near future.
During the two months of his presidency, Biden had telephone conversations with many world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, there has been no conversation between Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky so far.
