US sends two mln doses of Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine to Ukraine

The United States sent 2 million doses of Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine to Ukraine on Friday. This was announced by a White House official, Reuters reports. 

Ukraine will receive this batch of the drug via the COVAX international vaccine-sharing program.

The doses are part of President Joe Biden's promise to share doses of U.S. vaccine with other countries around the world, via COVAX or directly. An additional 3.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine are planned to be sent to Bangladesh over the weekend.

"Scientific teams and legal and regulatory authorities from both countries have worked together to ensure the prompt delivery of safe and effective vaccine lots," the official said.

Meanwjhile, now, one third of the population in Ukraine is immune to coronavirus. It was announced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov at a briefing following the meeting of the NSDC on Friday, July 16.

"I can say the preliminary results of a poll conducted in our country. The results show that 33% of the population is already immune to Covid-19," the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council said.
