United States Senate approved a draft law on the U.S. national security budget 2018. This was announced by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on his Facebook page.
"The US Senate approved a draft law on the U.S. national security budget 2018, which provides for the allocation of 500 million dollars to support Ukraine in the security and defense spheres," the head of state wrote.
According to him, the draft law authorizes the provision of lethal arms of a defensive character to our state. It also includes provisions that allow U.S. defense budgets to be used to rehabilitate wounded Ukrainian servicemen in the United States medical facilities, and to strengthen the capabilities of our state's air and naval forces.
"For the first time, at the legislative level, it is proposed to provide Ukraine with such defensive means: radar means of air defense and surveillance of the surface situation, naval mines, coastal ships and coastal guard ships," the president emphasized.
As it was reported earlier Poroshenko arrives in New York for UN General Assembly session on Monday. He held a number of the bilateral meetings with the world's leaders and spoke at the session.
Earlier Ukrainian leader claimed about his intention to present the idea of the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas at the session of the UN General Assembly. Also, he reported on the plans to raise the issue of the release of the Ukrainians.
