
The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine congratulated Volodymyr Zelensky on winning the presidential election. The corresponding statement was published on Facebook.
“We congratulate President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskyy and thank all those who contributed to ensuring Ukraine’s presidential election was conducted in a peaceful manner. We thank President Petro Poroshenko for his efforts over the past five years to strengthen Ukraine's security, prosperity and democracy, and to strengthen our bilateral relationship. We look forward to continuing the strong U.S.-Ukraine partnership with President-elect Zelenskyy," reads the message.
We recall, on April 21, the second round of presidential elections took place in Ukraine. Citizens chose between Volodymyr Zelensky and Petro Poroshenko.
According to the final results of the National exit poll, Zelensky leads with 73%; Petro Poroshenko won 25.5% of the vote.
The results of the second round of elections should be established by the Central Election Commission no later than May 1.
The inauguration of the newly elected president of Ukraine should take place before June 3 at the ceremonial meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
