The draft resolution on the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor Genocide in Ukraine was submitted in the US Congress. Valery Chaly, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the US claimed this as Ukrinform reported.
‘We as the Embassy of Ukraine and the diplomatic service promote the idea in different countries of the world, particularly in the US that the Congress should adopt the recognition of the Holodomor as the genocide of the Ukrainians. The first steps were made and such resolution was submitted today by the congressmen of the House of Representatives’, the ambassador reported.
He noted that Sander Levina, Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick and Andy Harris came forward with this initiative.
‘The resolution will be considered. I think it will take a few months and I hope that the voting in the US Congress will be next spring’, Chaly noted.
The ambassador also noted that the process of the recognition of the Holodomor as the genocide of the Ukrainian takes place in some states. The parliaments of the Washington, Oregon and New Jersey states already made such decision.
‘I as the ambassador along with the Holodomor-Genocide Committee appealed to all governors in the US that they should issue their leaflets’, Valery Chaly noted.
According to him, it will be the extra document for the decision of the congressmen and senators in the central body of legislative power in the US.
Earlier it was reported that the Senate of the Washington state adopted the resolution on the commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine at the end of spring 2017. Moreover, President Petro Poroshenko urged the UN countries-members to recognize the Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine as the genocide.
