US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie L. Yovanovitch believes that the tariff increase is the most powerful anti-corruption step of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. She said this during a public forum on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day in Kyiv on Friday, "Interfax-Ukraine" reports.
"Raising tariffs is one of the strongest anti-corruption steps undertaken by Ukrainian government,” Yovanovitch said.
According to the ambassador, it is a bold step, which will increase the revenues of the state budget and allow spending funds on support of Ukrainian families in the form of housing subsidies.
Earlier, the government carried out five of the six planned phases of electricity tariff increase. Another step is upcoming in 2017.
Compared with July 2015, the price of electricity in Ukraine increased by 56.4% this year.
