Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the former head of the SBU claimed that up to 20% of the officers of the Department of the SBU in Crimea left the peninsula after the annexation of it by Russia and abided to the Ukrainian oath. He claimed this during the questioning on the state treason of Yanukovych in Obolon District Court as 112 Ukraine broadcasted.
'I remember that I publicly appealed to the SBU officers in Crimea to not join FSB and come to the territory controlled by Ukraine as the governmental connection was turned off and up to 20% SBU officers who abided to the Ukrainian oath. It is easy to check because we settled them at the health camps and the SBU dormitories, we knew everyone by face', he reported.
According to Nalyvaichenko, Oleksandr Yakymenko, the current governance of the SBU was among the traitors and ordered the Crimean law enforcers to stay in the peninsula.
'Yakymenko was in Sevastopol since February 21 (2014) to Yanukovych who already stayed there and they ordered together that contradicted those made by the legitimate Ukrainian authority after the Revolution of Dignity and I was among the first persons to order the departments of the SBU. It was a conscious choice of each SBU officer', Nalyvaichenko added.
Nalyvaichenko was a head of the SBU twice: in 2006-2010 and 2014-2015.
Crimea was annexed by Russia by way of the illegal referendum that was held at the peninsula in March 2014. Earlier the Russian militaries that stayed there without any marking conquered all strategic military objects and building of the force and state bodies. The results of the referendum were not recognized by Ukraine and the world society. The number of the European and world countries, including Ukraine imposed the economic sanctions against Russia.
