UN Secretary General welcomes ceasefire in Donbas

Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed hope that ceasefire regime will allow to enable further progress in the security, humanitarian, political and economic fields

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed the announced cessation of hostilities in Eastern Ukraine on April 1, according to UN News Center.

He also called on parties to the conflict to fully adhere to the obligations they have incurred.

 "United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed yesterday's announcement of an agreement on adherence to a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, in accordance with the Minsk Agreements, by 1 April, and on the disengagement of forces and hardware in Stanytsia Luhanska by 6 April," the message reads.

Beyond that, Secretary General expressed concerned regarding the fate of the civilian population in Donbas and expressed hope that ceasefire regime will allow to enable further progress in the security, humanitarian, political and economic fields.

As it was reported earlier, Trilateral Contact Group has agreed on ceasefire regime starting from April 1 due to Easter holidays period. Additionally, the date for disengagement in Stanytsia Luhanska was once again established, this time for April 6.

Ministy of Defense also announced that they are ready to cease fire starting from April 1.

Defense Ministry speaker also informed today that militants violated ceasefire regime in Donbas 12 times since midnight.

President Poroshenko also instructed the Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces on March 30 to cease fire in the war-torn Donbas.
