Yevhen Marchuk, the representative of Ukraine to the security subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk predicts that the UN peacekeepers can come to Donbas not earlier than in 10 months after the decision of the General Assembly as 112 Ukraine reported.
“The UN does not possess the peacekeeping troops; they are formed for the particular task. Then – the group is sent to the territory for the examination of the situation – what the territory is, what is the situation. Such examination should answer the question about the number of the peacekeeping contingent, its functions. Of course, it cannot be such nonsense, “protection of OSCE patrols”, there was nothing like this ever in the history of the UN. Then they determine the level of the danger of the personnel, the term of rotation. Then the advance mission arrives and work out the budget. In parallel, the UN Secretariat works with the countries that can send the peacekeepers,” Marchuk said.
Taking about the terms of the possible arrival of the peacekeepers in Donbas, he specified:
“Even if this decision is adopted at this session, then the peacekeepers, according to my experience, can come to Ukraine in 10 months or a little bit later.”
Earlier Kurt Volker, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine named the countries that are ready to provide the peacekeepers to Donbas.
Also, adviser of the White House on national security issues John Bolton claimed that Russia's discussion of the issue of peacekeepers in Donbas is an indirect acknowledgment of involvement in the war against Ukraine.
