"A threatening situation with the balance of production and consumption of electricity has now developed in the energy system. Over the past two weeks, Ukraine spotted a record in air temperature, and the peak power consumption amounted to 17,935 MW," reads the message.
It is noted that the appropriate reserve shunting capacities are needed, specifically, the heat and power station units provided with fuel to ensure the balance in the power system with increasing air temperature and peak consumption.
“In the current conditions, the power system of Ukraine operates at the absence of the normative reserves for capacity at power units of thermal power plants of generating companies. There are now 7 power plants (3 DTEK plants and 4 CentreEnergo plants) with a total installed capacity of 2,857 MW. Due to the heat, the coal reserves in the warehouses of thermal power plants decreased by almost 10%,” the report says.
"Ukrenergo may use emergency shutdowns to ensure the integrity of the power system,” the message says.
Ukrenergo has already addressed the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine with a letter. The company emphasizes that the operational security of the power system of Ukraine depends on the speed of decision making and its execution.
As we reported earlier, Oleksandr Danylyuk, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) held a meeting with Member of the Supervisory Board of Atlantic Council David Petraeus. The special attention was paid to the issue of the fighting against corruption in Ukraine; Petraeus expressed the support to Ukraine and its further promotion on the way of the democratic development.
