"UkrEnergo" and the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine offer the Cabinet of Ministers to pronounce state of emergency on electricity market due to halted supplies of anthracite coal from ATO zone. This was reported during the meeting of anti-crisis headquarters by Vsevolod Kovalchuk, the acting head of "UkrEnergo", and Ihor Nasalyk, the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.
According to Nasalyk, there are 927 thousand tons of anthracite coal currently stored. Overall daily average of anthracite coal consumption is about 30 thousand tons per day.
"On average, anthracite supplies will be enough for 40 days. But we should count that every station has different stored amount and, in fact, this figure for stations ranges from 14 to 100 days given that the emergency situation is declared. When we run out of remaining coal, we will have to limit our consumers using special schedules of emergency shutdowns," Kovalchuk said.
"Only the mechanism of emergency state imposed by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers allows "UkrEnergo" to stop, reduce of increase the generation and accordingly not lower any existing equipment in the existing electric network," he added.
As it is know, railway blockade continues in Ukraine for three weeks already. These train tracks are used to deliver coal from the occupied territories of Donbas. Prime-Minister Groysman announced that he does not see the alternative for buying coal from enterprises located on the occupied territories in order to ensure energy supply.
