“As a result of a sharp deterioration in weather conditions, an emergency situation arose, as a result of which a vessel of the national fleet was damaged. After assessing the situation, it was decided to anchor the vessel in order to ensure the implementation of measures to combat damage," the message reads.
The Ukrainian Navy noted that the crew managed to stabilize the emergency. There is no threat to the life of sailors and the risk of losing the ship.
As we reported earlier, on October 11, The Hague tribunal began hearings the case of Russia's illegal detention of three Ukrainian naval ships and 24 crew members when they passed through the Kerch Strait in 2018.
Hearings concerning the violation of the immunity of Ukrainian naval ships and their crews by the Russian authorities will continue in the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in accordance with Annex VII to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
