Ukrainian Oksana Lyniv will become the first female conductor of the prestigious Bayreuth Festival of classical music in more than a century of history.
The conductor herself wrote about this on her Facebook page.
“No words, what I feel, now it is officially announced - my debut as the very first female-conductor in the history of Wagner opera festival Bayreuth with the „Flying Dutchman“ the next year 2021!,” the message says.
It is noted on the festival’s website that since 1876 until now, 92 men have staged Richard Wagner's operas at the Bayreuth Festival.
Bayreuther Festspiele is an annual summer festival featuring musical dramas by Richard Wagner. It is one of the most prestigious festivals of classical music. It was founded by the composer himself.
