Ukrainian State Aviation Administration establishes 15 km no-fly zone around Eurovision venue

The State Aviation Administration of Ukraine restricted flights in 15 km radius up to 1.5 km height around International Exhibition Center in Kyiv. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine agency referring to the aviation department.

The following restriction will remain in force during preparation and holding of Eurovision-2017 song contest from May 4 to 14, 2017.

State Aviation Administration said that the according decision was taken in order to prevent  illegal actions in the airspace.

It is noted that the prohibition does not apply to regular and charter flights both transit and those with final destination in "Boryspil" and "Zhuliany" airports.

Beyond that, restriction does not extend to flights with a view to providing medical assistance, rescuing flights and those necessary to ensure Eurovision event (with a permission from the General Staff and State Aviation Administration).

Eurovision song contest will be held in Kyiv at the International Exhibition Center. Semi-finals are scheduled for May 9 and 11, final will take place on May 13. Ukraine, the hosting country, will be represented by rock band O.Torvald, which is to perform 22nd, right at the final show bypassing the semi-final stage.
