In the first millennium BC, nomadic tribes ruled in Ukraine. In the first third of the millennium, there were the Cimmerians - the first known pastoral Iranian tribes in modern Ukraine. They came around the XV century BC from East Asia through the Caucasus and inhabited the steppe and forest-steppe zones. With their arrival on the territory of Ukraine, the Iron Age began. In the VII-VIII centuries BC the Cimmerians were driven out by the Scythians and other Iranian tribes from Central Asia. They were also pastoralists, nomads and warriors. In addition, they developed trade with the Greek colonies. The Scythians are famous for their golden ornaments with animal and military motifs.
