Twelve Ukrainian scientists-explorers of Antarctic, including geologists, geophysicists, biologists, physicians, engineers and other specialists, will go on an expedition to Antarctic to the station "Academician Vernadsky" on April 1 for a year. This was announced at the ceremony for these scientists, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reports.
Ukraine is one of 29 countries that can take decisions on the activities on the Arctic continent. At the meeting with the expedition participants, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych stated that despite the temporary difficulties in the country, Ukrainian station "Academician Vernadsky" should continue its work.
"Ukraine has an important position in Antarctic activities, and it is extremely important for us not to lose this right, which was gained by all previous expeditions and Ukrainian scientists." We must do everything possible to ensure that despite war and financial problems, "Academician Vernadsky" station does not stop working," Hrynevych said.
One of the problems of this expedition is the absence of a scientific vessel to support the operation of Ukrainian station, which costs about $ 2 million.
Also, technical personnel will go to the station together with the scientists. They will support the life of the station. The budget of this year’s expedition is around 1,5 million dollars.
Earlier it was reported that a spaceport for launches of Ukrainian rockets will be built in Canada. Eight Cyclone 4M rockets will be launched every year till 2022 from the cosmodrome.
