Religious studies scholar Ihor Kozlovsky has been released today under the prisoner exchange with Donbas militants, according to Hromadske. Among others already released, there is serviceman Volodymyr Fomichev and public activist Oleskiy Kyrychenko.
Previously it was informed that Ukrainian scholar Ihor Kozlovsky taught religious studies at the Donetsk university. He couldn’t leave Donetsk when the war started because he was taking care of his paralyzed son. The Russia-backed militants detained him and locked him up in a basement.
The scientist had nothing to do with politics and didn’t take part in the combat actions due to his age and state of health. According to his son, the self-claimed authorities might have captured him for participating in the inter-religious prayer marathon For Unity and Peace in Ukraine. It was held in March-October 2014 and Kozlovsky was noticed with the Ukrainian flag there.
