Ukrainian mobile network operators have started works on banning websites of the Russian Federation under sanctions. This was reported by "Vodafone Ukraine" company.

"Telecom operators "Kyivstar", "Lifecell" and "Vodafone Ukraine" are informing that presidential decree #133/2017 from May 15, 2017, came into force today. According to this decision, telecom operators must restrict access to a number of web resources, particularly Vkontakte, Odnoklassniki, all Yandex services, and others. In order to meet the requirements of the following decree, telecom operators are starting technical measures to limit access to the mentioned web-sites according to the technical capacities," Vodafone company announced.

Measures to limit customers’ access to prohibited Russian websites are currently underway.

On May 16, 2017, President Petro Poroshenko signed the decree banning major Russian web portals and social networks in Ukraine;,, users in Ukraine will lose their accounts and will have no access to the respective websites.

Beyond that, the Internet Association of Ukraine requested the President of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine to explain how to execute the decree regarding sanctions against the Russian services within the legislation.
