The Category 2 Center status provided to the Minor Academy of Science of Ukraine (MAS) by the UNESCO on October 13, 2017, will further the development of the education diplomacy. President of the MAS Stanislav Dovgy reported this to ‘Dzerkalo Tyzhnia’.
According to him, ‘the high estimation of our activity brings the responsibility to the MAS on the expansion of the teaching practicum worked out in Ukraine among the UNESCO-countries. This work demands the deepening of the international activity and will further the direct contacts of the Ukrainian children and teachers with their foreign colleagues and will further the development of the education diplomacy’.
Particularly, the MAS will develop the partnership with the state and non-governmental organization of Africa on education within the cooperation with the UNESCO, EuroJAS and African Council in Ukraine.
Dovgy reported on the achievements of the MAS that is the basis of the most powerful students’ lab of the after-school education in the Eastern Europe and countries of CIS. The most important events of the MAS were included in the Work Program of the Ukrainian government and Sustainable Development Strategy ‘Ukraine-2020’. There the Ukrainian competition-presentation of the academic research works of the pupils-members of the MAS. This competition is the base for the selection of the most talented children for the participation in the international programs: scientific school on physics on the base of the European organization for nuclear research (CERN, Geneva, Switzerland), scientific school on biological chemistry on the basis of the Experimental Social Science Laboratory X-lab (Göttingen, Germany) and others.
Moreover, the students of the MAS won the prize places and awards at the international ICYS conference, international academic competition on ecology projects INESPO, Genius Olympiad, Intel ISEF, EUCYS, Stockholm Water Prize, International Brain Bee Competition and others.
Dovgy emphasized the key effort of the pedagogic and academically-pedagogic workers of the MAS in the receiving of the Category 2 Center status. ‘Today the total amount of the pedagogues and the scientists who work with the talented children is more than 6 500 people, there are about 1 500 PhDs, 300 Doctors nauk. It is the army of the associates’, he noted.
Also, the MAS president noted the contribution of the communication platform and partner of the academy ‘European Minor Academy of Science’ EuroJAS. The initiators of it wanted to further the cooperation and experience exchange between the famous scientists and the youth, between the international scientific establishments and the MAS. One of their projects is the ‘Lectures of Future’ that is the open dialogue of the young scientists and the world-famous scientists.
The Executive Board of the UNESCO unanimously supported the provision of the Center 2 status to the MAS on October 13. The procedure of the signing of the Agreement will take place in December 2017 or January 2018.
