Russian Nizhniy Novgorod District Court sentenced the Ukrainian lawyer Ihor Kyiashko to eight years behind bars in a high-security correctional facility on the charge of espionage and military equipment smuggling attempt, as Meduza reported.
“According to the prosecution, Kyiashko tried to buy a blade for RD-33 engine in Russia and sell it in Ukraine. RD-33 is used in MiG-29 jet fighter aircraft. Russian Security Service controlled the sale, he was detained when the money was handed. Kyiashko admitted his guilt,” the news agency reads.
Besides, Kyiashko was found guilty of attempting to gather data on a radio station, which is used in the S-400 missile system. According to Kyiashko, somebody planted the secret documents during the arrest.
His lawyer Olexiy Matasov regards the sentence quite light, he is not going to appeal against it.
Reportedly, Ihor Kyiashko, a Ukrainian lawyer was detained in Nizhniy Novgorod region on April 10. He was charged for smuggling attempt and spying. In particular, he was accused of trying to acquire tools of aviation engines and the copies of technical documentation about the radar station which is a part of the man-portable air defense system.
