The court has sentenced Pavlo Zolotarev, ex-member of "Ukrainian Choice" NGO (let by Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk) and journalist to five years in prison conditionally for the holding of the events in the support of the federalization of Ukraine on the request of the Russian Federation as Ukrainian News reported citing the court’s decision.
According to the document, native of Zaporizhia Pavlo Zolotarev, being a member of organized criminal group, assumed measures for the adoption of the appeals to the president, the Verkhovna Rada, Cabinet of Ministers on the delimitation of the powers between central and local authorities at the session of the district and regional councils of different regions of Ukraine in exchange for money during 2016.
Particularly, the organizer of the crime financed the secretaries of the regional councils for the adoption of the illegal actions. The award amounts for each decision was from $60 thousand up to $100 thousand.
The mentioned funds were received from the interested parties from the Russian Federation.
In spring 2016, Zolotarev initiated the appeal of the lawmakers of Volodymyrets district council of Rivne region to the president and parliament on the delimitation of the powers between central and local councils of the regions.
At the beginning of May 2016, he paid for the similar appeal of the lawmakers of Zhytomyr Regional Council to the MPs of the parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers. In autumn 2016, the similar appeal of the lawmakers of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council to the president and the Verkhovna Rada took place.
The mentioned appeals were filed to create the preconditions for the conclusion of the proper contracts between the bodies of the local self-government and central body of the executive power and it would provide the economic and administrative the autonomy of the regions of Ukraine.
In February 2017, Zolotarev was detained by the law enforcers.
At the court session, the accused pleaded guilty of all crimes and confirmed the circumstance of the committed crime.
Also, he noted that he sincerely repents of his actions and drew proper conclusions for himself.
The court found him guilty in the assault at the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and sentenced him to five years in prison without the confiscation of the property.
Besides, Zolotarev was exempted from the punishment with the probation for two years.
All this time the journalist remained at large and even got married.
