Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba discussed the detention of the Ukrainians in Belarus with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. Besides, the parties discussed the prospects of the meeting of Normandy Four representatives as the Ukrainian ministry reported.
“Dmytro Kuleba and Heiko Mass exchanged opinion on the situation in Belarus. Head of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine informed German colleague about detention by Belarusian authorities of two Ukrainian human rights activists from East-SOS organization Kostyantyn Reutsky and Yevhen Vasyliev. The ministers agreed to keep in touch concerning this situation,” the message said.
The foreign ministers also discussed the prospects of contacts at the level of the Normandy Format Foreign Ministers and agreed that such a meeting of four ministers is urgently needed in the next months.
The parties also discuss the situation in Donbas. Kuleba informed Maas about the regime of full and comprehensive ceasefire through which there are no deceased or injured Ukrainian military during two weeks. The ministers agreed that the constant ceasefire regime in Donbas should create the precondition for a further peaceful settlement in the region.
On August 12, in Minsk, the law enforcers severely detained Ukrainian volunteers of Vostok-SOS organization Kostyantyn Revutsky and Yevhen Vasylyiev.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine responded to the detention of the Ukrainian volunteers. The Embassy of Ukraine to Belarus assumes measures toward the establishment of the location and incarceration conditions of detained Ukrainians.
On August 13, Ukraine sent two notes to the Foreign Ministry of Belarus with the demand to provide information about detainees. The next day, Kostyantyn Reutsky and Yevhen Vasyliev, the Ukrainian reporters and volunteers were released from the remand center in Belarus.
