Ukrainian FM urged international community to influence Russia to release journalist Semena

The indictment was earlier handed to Semena in separatism case in the occupied Crimea

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to influence Russia to stop harassment of journalist of "Crimea. Realities" Mykola Semena. This was reported by the press secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa on Twitter.

"We condemn the illegal actions of the occupant. We call on international partners to influence the Russian Federation demanding an end to the persecution of Mykola Semena and other Ukrainian citizens,” she wrote.

The speaker also stated that Semema was persecuted for political reasons for defending freedom of speech and protection of homeland.

On January 20, in annexed Crimea journalist Mykola Semena was given an indictment in charges of separatism because of an article entitled "The blockade is a necessary first step towards the liberation of Crimea." The journalist was accused of calling for the violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.
