Ukrainian film “Babi Yar. Context” nominated for European Film Awards

Ukrainian film “Babi Yar. Context” directed by Serhiy Loznytsia is nominated for European Film Awards in the European Documentary category.

As the Ukrainian State Film Agency reported, the nominees were announced at the Sevilla International Film Festival in Spain. Besides, four movies will compete for the award in this category:

  • Mr Bachmann and his class (Germany)
  • Flee (Denmark, France, Sweden, Norway)
  • Taming the garden (Switzerland, Germany, Georgia)
  • The most beautiful boy in the world (Sweden)

“Babi Yar. Context” movie consists of 24 episodes edited from archival materials. The film tells about the massacres of Jews in Nazi-occupied Kyiv in September 1941 and the consequences of this tragedy.

The awarding of the winners of the 34th European Film Awards will take place on December 11 in Berlin.

As we reported, the documentary film of Ukrainian filmmaker Serhiy Loznytsia (Donbass, Maidan, My Joy) entered the program of special screenings of the 74th Cannes Film Festival. The Festival was taking place from July 6 until July 17.

Loznytsia has already won the prize at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2018, the jury noted him with the Certain Regard Award for Best Director. The jury awarded Donbass drama film.
