Ukrainian checkpoints pass Schengen assessment

The Ukrainian checkpoints and the separate border units passed the Schengen assessment within the international project TWINNING as the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported.

Such event took place in Ukraine for the first time ever. They were preceded by the work out of the assessment mechanism, preparation of the Ukrainian experts by training of the Schengen assessment, studying of the technical vulnerability of the border control system jointly with the European experts.

The Ukrainian border guards saw the work of the European colleagues and participated in the joint work during the held events.

‘During the Schengen (practical) assessment of 11 checkpoints of the sea, aviation and land linking (Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Kherson, Zakarpattia regions) the experts were able to see the present capabilities of the checkpoints to carry out missions’, the message said.

The experts assessed the efficiency of the procedures on the forged documents and stolen cars detection, level of staff awareness and a possibility to respond to the different situation.

‘The Coast Guard experts worked in Odesa Maritime Protection unit and Maritime Protection Department of State Border Guard Service Administration’, the message said.

The next events will be held at the end of May and as the result of it, the final reported will be prepared.
