Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies hands Odesa Mayor, four officials charge notices

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) handed Hennady Trukhanov, the Mayor of Odesa and four officials of Odesa Mayor Office charge notices on the case of the sale of the plant 'Krayan'. The NABU source claimed this to Ukrainian News.

According to the source, they are suspect of the embezzlement of the big sum of funds.

Also, Pavlo Bugelman, the Deputy Mayor, Oleksy Spektor, the Director of Communal Property Department, Vasyl Shkryabayu, the Head of Communal Property Commission of City Council and one more official of the Mayor Office received the charge notices.

All suspects are abroad.

The charge notices were sent by the NABU to a place of residence and workplace of the suspects.

Later the press service of the NABU confirmed this information on Facebook.

'The charge notices on the suspect were given due to the order of Nazar Kholodnytsky, the Head of SAP who signed the mentioned procedural document', the message said.

The bureau also confirmed that three more officials were served with charge notices. The anti-corruption body noted that the procedural action was made within the investigation on the acquisition of the Odesa budget's funds as the location of the suspects is not identified yet.

'At the moment we assume all possible measures to establish the location of the suspects and in the case of the failure we will put them on the wanted list'.

Moreover, it is reported that three people on this criminal proceeding were detained on February 13 during the investigation.

'One more person, a broker was served with charge notice due to the malpractice'.

The NABU began the investigation in November 2016 on the purchase of the factory 'Krayan', which was overpriced by the city council. According to the bureau, the building was sold for $149,080 in the beginning of 2016 and the Mayor office of Odesa purchased it in September 2016 for $ 6.9 million.

It was planned to transfer all structural departments of the Mayor office that are scattered over Odesato the ownership of the factory.

Trukhanov was questioned as the witness in this case by the NABU in October 2017. In January 2018, MP of the Odesa City Council and his accomplice were charged on the attempt of the bribe in the sum $500,000 to the worker of the NABU to lift the arrest of the assets.
