After the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump, the Ambassador of Ukraine in Washington Valeriy Chaly said he took the opportunity to talk with the new president on relations with Ukraine, and the conversation took place in a positive manner. "I took the opportunity to briefly speak with the president-elect to ensure that Ukrainian issue would not be ignored," Chaly said.
He clarified that the conversation took place two days ago during pre-inauguration.
"I cannot tell you the nature of this conversation, but I can say that prior to this a very positive chat between Ukrainian president and the newly elected president Trump actually took place. My conversation is the development of this dialogue," the diplomat said.
He also noted that the key challenge for Ukraine today is to ensure direct contact at the highest level.
"It is not easy to achieve this now, but I believe our task is to have such a dialogue,” he said.
In this regard, he said that the Embassy has transmitted a list of issues prepared by the Ukraine, "on which we would like to develop cooperation in the areas of our common interests, including the things that we can offer to the United States."
Also, Chaly informed that he had the opportunity to speak with many of the key figures of the new administration of the White House at the inaugural event on Friday.
"The new team that comes is a dynamic, vibrant, it tends to new developments. This is why we must offer a vision, not just talk about the contacts,” he stressed.
The diplomat said that the Embassy of Ukraine has long been working with the transition team of Donald Trump. In addition, Ukraine retains bipartisan support in both houses of Congress. According to him, it is important to keep the support of the United States, their understanding of the importance of Ukraine to the European security and national interests of America in the future.
